The Senior Accountant I supports the Controller with a wide variety of functions which include transactional processing, financial analysis, annual budget development and monitoring, cost allocation, monthly forecasts, program and annual audit support, the implementation of financial and compliance controls, ad hoc reporting and special projects, as requested. The Senior Accountant will be a key member of the Accounting team and support company-wide initiatives.

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor degree in Accounting or Finance and 3 years of accounting experience, preferably in the not-for-profit sector or audit experience in complex non-profit entities. Working knowledge of Windows and Word. Must have strong Excel skills. Strong communication and interpersonal skills. The Senior Accountant I must have strong written and verbal communication skills to communicate clear, effective and prompt responses to internal and external constituents.

Supervisory Role:

This position does not have supervisory responsibilities.

Principal Responsibilities:

The below enumerated principal responsibilities are inclusive of both program specific and firm-wide related administration, as applicable.

1. Analyze cash, receivables, and revenue for accuracy and to assist management
2. Research variances and follow-up on any issues in a timely manner
3. Make recommendations to develop, improve, and update the Organization's financial systems , policies and procedures as necessary
4. Assist with all required annual Audits and Pro forma 990 conducted by outside auditors.
5. Document all policies and procedures followed in the performance of the job to create and maintain Accounting Manual on a current basis.
6. Partake in various department-wide initiatives including ad hoc reporting and special projects, as requested
7. Performs other related duties as assigned or requested.

Expected Results of Principal Responsibilities:

1. Provide analysis on financial results (trends, performance metrics, benchmarks) and provide relevant recommendation
2. Document findings in a variance analysis and provide explanation or a plan of action to make necessary adjustments
3. As a team member, ensures the effective and efficient use of systems and participates in analyzing, designing, implementing and testing systems and process improvements
4. Auditors receive requested information. Prepares and analyze various year-end reports for Finance staff in connection with the external Audit and Pro forma 990 filing
5. Follow all procedures as listed in the manual; recommend changes and updates for consideration and approval by CFO and Controller
6. Utilizing Excel skills, complete projects in an effective and efficient manner.

Work Environment:

While performing the duties of the job, the employee will be in an office environment performing administrative work.

Physical Demands:

While performing the duties of the job, the employee is regularly required to have visual acuity, talk and hear while communicating with peers and/or vendors. This position is sedentary and requires sitting for long period of times. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move items up to 25 pounds.
