Credentialed Alcoholism and Substance Abuse Counselor provides direct counseling, guidance and case management services to clients with specific substance abuse problems. The Credentialed Alcoholism and Substance Abuse Counselor participates in delivery of social services to all clients of the program.



Minimum Qualifications:

Credentialed Alcoholism and Substance Abuse Counselor (CASAC) by NYS Office of Alcoholism and Substance Abuse Services.  Bachelor’s degree in a related field and one year working with the homeless population. Clean and valid N.Y driver’s license. 


Supervisory Role:

This position has supervisory responsibilities


Principal Responsibilities:

  1. Identify and engage homeless individuals and complete substance abuse/alcohol assessments.

  2. Provide substance abuse counseling, education on addiction and harm reduction.

  3. Provide education on available services related to detox and rehabilitation for recovery and make appropriate referrals

  4. Work with clients to develop achievable plans for housing placements.

  5. Maintain linkages with community treatment providers.

     6.  Complete accurate and comprehensive service delivery reports
